insurance discount savings

A wind mitigation inspection documents wind-related construction features that help reduce the amount of damage caused by a hurricane, windstorm, or tropical storm. These findings often result in significant savings for the homeowner by lowering their insurance premiums. Often, no changes are needed to be made to your home to qualify for these discounts.

The wind mitigation report will examine seven areas:

  • Construction Year: The year the house was built, which tells the inspector how strict the building codes were.

  • Roof Covering: The type of roof covering (shingle, metal, tile, etc.) and the age of the covering.

  • Roof Deck Attachment: The material your roof deck (i.e. the material your shingles are nailed to) is made of, the type of nails securing the shingles, and how far apart the nails are spaced

  • Roof To Wall Attachment: The method used to attach the roof to your walls

  • Roof Geometry: The shape and slope of your roof

  • Secondary Water Resistance: The type of material between the shingles and roof decking

  • Opening Protection: Whether you have additional protections on openings such as a skylights, garage doors, windows, etc.

With your certified wind mitigation report, the insurance company will calculate the amount of discount.
